South Africa’s opening game against Afghanistan was quite a disaster for the hosts as they merely made 129 runs, a total not even fit for the T20 version of the game. South Africa has been on a losing streak as they previously also lost to Sri Lanka is one of the warm-up matches. The batting order has been an unrectified problem with the proteas as their middle order has been constantly collapsing. In fact, apart from Captain, Bryce Parsons, Luke Beaufort, and Gerald Coetzee, all other players scored runs in single digits. South Africa’s bowling side has also been rather weak bowlers just failing to take wickets or curbing the runs. South Africa will have to improve their overall performance if they want to keep their chances alive in the tournament going forward.
Bryce Parson will be expected to recreate his magic which he cast while playing against Nigeria in one of the warm matches. Only Parson has been consistent and his team will be mainly counting on him to keep the momentum going. Gerald Coetzee has been good with the bat and the ball and will have to deliver a good all-round performance in the next game. He will also be expected to keep a partnership running with Parson as they open for the Proteas. Tiaan Van Vuuren will be counted on to improve the bowling attack of the team.
The Canadian team put up a decent performance in their first game against the United Arab Emirates. However, Canada put up a dismal bowling performance. Mihir Patel hit 90 runs off 105 balls. However, there were no batsmen to compliment him and keep the partnership going and Canada will have to look into that. They do need to strengthen their opening order. The bowlers completely let down their side in their previous game as only Muhammad Kamal and Ashtan Deosammy were able to pick wickets and that too just one each. Canada will have to completely upgrade its bowling performance in order to make it in this tournament.
Mihir Patel is one to look out for with the bat. Akhil Kumar and Randir Sandhu are also good batsmen who need to improve their form. Muhammad Kamal has the potential to be the best all-rounder of the team.
