NZA vs INDA, 2nd unofficial ODI, Hagley Oval, Christchurch, India A tour of New Zealand, 2020. Thursday, January 23, 10:00 PM GMT. Late on Thursday night India A will face New Zealand A at the latter’s home in Hagley Oval, Christchurch for the 2nd unofficial ODI. India A is currently touring New Zealand.
The hosts have been put in a tight spot after the very first 0DI at Lincoln. India A decimated New Zealand A after they successfully chased the latter’s total of 231 runs. India A in fact won the match by 5 wickets and 123 balls to spare. In the first innings, New Zealand batsmen, Rachin Ravindra and Tom Bruce came to close to hitting half-centuries each and provide stability to the hosts. Ravindra scored 49 runs off 58 balls and Bruce hit 47 off 55. However, apart from this duo, none of the other batsmen were able to step up for New Zealand. India A kept picking wickets at regular intervals and the hosts were only able to hit 230 runs in 48.3 overs before losing all their wickets. This defeat comes after the India A dominated the hosts in all their warm-matches. New Zealand A will have to focus on overall improvement, with all players equally pitching in and stepping up.
India A looks in great form and will be looking forward to dominating the next two unofficial ODI’s in order to seal the series early. India’s opening order has been able to get the runs on board very early, which has been one of the main reasons for the team’s early finishes. However, the major difference between India A and New Zealand has been the performance of the middle order. In the first ODI, New Zealand’s middle-order collapsed like a stack of cards, while India A’s batsmen pitched in after the fall of Shaw and Agarwal to keep the momentum going. Sanju Sampson and Shubam Gill were able to forge a partnership and ensured the runs kept coming. India A will need to continue in this form to emerge victorious again on Thursday.

Rachin Ravindra will be New Zealand A’s top-notch batsman since he has been in good form. Ravindra had also won the Super Smash a few days back and New Zealand A will be counting on him to adjust well to this format of the game as well and put up a good show. Central Stag’s run-hitter Tom Bruce will also be counted on to get the runs on board and so far, Ravindra and Bruce have held on to their end of the bargain. James Neesham, another Super Smash player is also one to look out for.
